Computer Outreach in Yalta
|
In 1945 Yalta was the site of an important conference with Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill.
This became the site of a computer outreach offered by two sister churches in Rhode Island who joined together to send a team of 10 people to work with eDOT missionaries, Larry and Debbie. Alvina, from Canada joined them and together the team offered computer classes to almost 100 people in a 2 w eek period. Yalta Baptist Church, which hosted the outreach, was thrilled with the many new contacts they made. Some, such as Gury, responded to a colorful poster tacked on a telephone pole. Others were brought there by friends within the church.
The beginner level computer classes ran for 5 days, 3 hours each day. In addition to instruction and hands-on activities, each class included a testimony by one of the team members and a devotional talk. Students such as Gury used broken English to discuss spiritual truths with Kevin, his computer “tutor”. Seeds of truth were planted in his heart through the devotionals and his time with Kevin. At the closing ceremony each student received a certificate, a CD-based Bible course on the Life of Christ, a portfolio of their work (including John 3:16 in Ru ssian and a graphic of Jesus' cross and tomb which they'd created), and a
colorful braceleteach color a reminder of the truth of the Gospel. Kevin wrote out Acts
4:12 to include in Gury's packet. Pray that these mementos from the class will bear fruit in the lives of Gury and others who, for the first time, heard the truth that God loves them and sent Jesus to provide salvation.
