Filling the Gap: Volunteering with eDOT
|
Technology
is invading every area of our
world. As it does, eDOT endeavors
to explore new frontiers, seeking
creative ways to build the church in
Europe through technology.
Our small full-time staff cannot
accomplish these tasks alone.
Consequently we count on volunteers
to work alongside us, giving us
technical advice and professional
help to move God's kingdom forward.
One such volunteer, Kathy, a
principal of a middle school in
Rhode Island, helped us develop a
hands-on curriculum for computer
outreaches in Ukraine. Kathy has her
doctoral degree in educational
leadership--and she has a passion
for missions. She serves on the
Missions Committee in her local
church and leads their youth
outreach program each summer. When
she offered to help us develop a
computer curriculum that would not
only teach basic computer
skills but integrate truth with
knowledge, we eagerly accepted!
Kathy
spent her winter school break last
year in Germany, getting to know the
eDOT team and assessing objectives
with us. She returned to Rhode
Island, learned the software
programs around which the curriculum
was to be built, and developed a
five-day curriculum. She then
trained a team of 10 to do the first
“trial run” in Yalta (see
story here).
Yes,
God is using techies and geeks to
fill the gaps on our team;
He is also using educators,
managers, writers, and
administrators to further His
kingdom in -Europe. We are thankful
for the many volunteers who have
gifts and expertise that complement
and supplement those of our full
time missionaries on the field. Some
work with us developing Web sites
for ministries in Europe, others
develop hardware and software
specifications for our eLearning
Centers, and some go on short-term
computer outreach trips. We
gratefully applaud each one who
spends time tweaking a Web site,
untangling code, and writing
curriculum. Thank you! |
