Bright Hope for Ukraine
|
Evgenii (ev-gen-ee) rose early to begin his day at Zaporozhye (zap-a-ro-sia) Bible College (ZBC). The day was grey. The weather in Ukraine was bleak and cold. He hurried down the apartment-lined, potholed streets to the bus stop. Any normal person would have felt justified in feeling depressed in this stark, post-Communist environment. But not Evgenii. For in contrast to the dismal landscape around him, he knew the bright hope that only the Good News brings.
Young Evgenii had received training at ZBC and was now an instructor there. In his ministry at his local church, he realized that not everyone desiring training could attend Bible school full time. Family commitments, limited finances, and work
kept many from Bible training. And with his own job and work at the church, as well as responsibilities to his young wife and new baby, it was nearly impossible for him to offer more than basic teaching to the young people with whom he worked.
And so it was with anticipation that he began to work together with eDOT (electronic Discipleship, Outreach, and Training), Greater Europe Mission's
ministry dedicated to using technology to help Europeans build the church in Europe. The potential of offering biblical training to Ukrainians right in their own home or church, in their own language, at their convenience, and at an affordable price brought a lightness to his steps. No wonder Evgenii felt hopeful!
