A Close Look at Distance Learning
|
The first
distance learning course offered at an eDOT eLearning Center was completed in the fall of 2003.
Developed by Mission Aviation
Fellowship's Learning Technologies
team in partnership with other ministries,
the Stewardship course debuted at the Zaporozhye (zap-a-ro-sia) Bible College (ZBC)
in Ukraine. This course offers
a biblical perspective on
stewardship, an area of Christian
living that, according to Russian
pastors, needed attention.
When asked about his reaction to his first
distance learning course, Sasha
replied, “It was pleasantly
shocking, as I have never used a
computer before, and the content was
interesting.” He thought that it gave him a broader understanding of the material and helped him apply the material to his life. The course is designed in such a way that students actively participate in the learning process. No sitting
in the back row of class and passively observing! They examine various Bible passages,
interview other believers, and answer questions, the results of which are then sent to all of the students for “class discussion”
via email. Each student is involved in sharing what
he has learned, thus contributing to the greater good of the class.
Vadim appreciated the discussion with other students which helped to clarify his thinking on the topic. He found that the facilitator answered questions, clarified discussion, and kept the students pointed in the right direction. The facilitator also helped with the occasional technical problem, since you cannot have computers without having SOME technical difficulties!
Alonya
summed up her response to the course: “Many topics touched my heart; I understood
the seriousness of my responsibility
to be a faithful steward before God.” This is eDOT's prayer and goal—that our courses would be biblical and practical, providing resources, so
Christ's kingdom can advance in Europe.
