Communicating Christ's Love Through Computer Camps
|
In the rural Romanian town of Nalati, eager youth run excitedly to the local church. This
is the first day of Computer Camp! Here
is an opportunity to learn how computers work, to get ahead of their peers in learning about this “new” technology! They also have the opportunity to hear the greatest news of their livesthat God loves them and sent His Son to pay the price for their sins.
Pastor Ben-Oni Ardelean realized several years ago that
offering computer training, much like
teaching English, would be an effective way to reach new contacts with the truth of the
gospel. Packing the eLearning
Center's computers (desktops, not laptops!) in the back of his car, he sets them up in a church in a remote village in order to
conduct an “eDOT evangelistic crusade." During the weeklong camp, the young people not only learn computers and hear the
gospel clearly presented through testimonies by the instructorsbut
they also have the possibility of developing relationships with local believers. According to Ben-Oni, over 1,000 people have benefited in the past yearhearing the
gospel through the computer camps.
Sandwiched between Ukraine and Bulgaria, Romania borders the Black Sea on the east. With over 22 million people in a country the size of Oregon, Romania has a growing youth population, enthusiastic about their future. Will their future involve knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? We hope so! Like Paul, eDOT is using current methods to “become all things to all men so that by all possible means” we might save some
(1 Cor. 9:22).
