Recognizing Opportunities for the Gospel in Times of Crisis

“Ukrainian poll crisis deepens,” CNN announced back in December 2004.  "Yanukovich resigns, but vows to fight on," declared the International Herald Tribune.  As the news media announced the changes and challenges in Ukraine, we saw evidence of God's hand moving across that great land.  Believers, often leading the peaceful resistance, held prayer vigils in the tent cities, distributed Bibles and gospel literature, and showed hospitality to others supporting freedom and truth.
Shortly after that tainted election, Rich, director of eDOT, traveled to Kiev to see the situation firsthand and to explore with our partners what changes might be ahead.  He found Christian leaders excited; Ukraine was at a new threshold of opportunity.  The vast majority of Ukrainians wanted to see their country move away from being a corrupt nation and move toward truth.  God is answering prayers in opening doors of opportunity—for outreach and for Bible training.
Since 2001 eDOT has been helping to build the church in Ukraine through discipleship, outreach, and training.  We've continued to install eLearning Centers there, with plans to set up a total of 50 by 2008.  Zaporozhye Bible College has been developed as a hub for eLearning centers in that region, while making available the first of many computer-based Bible courses.  We have worked with Bible Mission International in developing a Russian online evangelistic multimedia exploration of the Life of Christ.  Join us in praying that the “gates of hell will not prevail” and that righteousness will triumph and God's kingdom will advance in these days of change in Ukraine.
