A 'Techie' Finds Her Niche in Missions
|
Until recently, people
like Carolyn, a technology expert, had a difficult time finding their niche in missions. When Carolyn retired after 20 years as a Unix Computer System Administrator, she was connected with the
director of eDOT who immediately realized what a wonderful resource person she would be in establishing eLearning Centers!
Carolyn and her husband, Norm, live in California. They have two children and two grandchildren. In the last two years, Carolyn has taken several trips to Ukraine where she has worked beside Ukrainians to help install most of eDOT's eLearning computer centers.
She has also written and taught computer courses and has trained the centers' administrators in Linux. “There has been nothing so satisfying in my whole life!” said Carolyn when asked about her experience in Ukraine.
She loves watching people who have never touched a computer
become excited about what they can do with them. She remembers one young man who clicked the button to make the window fill the screen and just about jumped out of his seat—he was so amazed at the result. Teaching someone how to use a mouse can also be interesting; often the person moves
his body instead of his hand! Can God use computer specialists to further His
kingdom? Absolutely! Many in Ukraine would not have been exposed to the
gospel if Carolyn had not been faithful in helping install computer centers and in participating in evangelistic outreaches there. Others would not be
able to take Bible courses online,
without an eLearning center in which
to access computers.
Do you have technology training or experience? Would you like to use it to build the
church in Europe? Increasing numbers of believers are getting involvedsharing their abilities to help further God's
kingdom through eDOT.
